Loren Fountaine is a North Country native and lives in Massena with his wife and two children. He grew up in Winthrop, NY and attended St. Lawrence Central High School. After High School, Loren attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, obtaining a B.M. and a M.M. in Music Education. He taught music at Lisbon central School and St. Lawrence Central School before becoming a Labor Relations Specialist with NYSUT.
Loren began brewing beer in the early 2000s. He started on his stove brewing extract batches and the hobby has stuck with him. He now has an entire room of his home dedicated to brewing, and upgraded to an automated recirculating mash system in 2014.
Since 2014, Loren has brewed over 400 gallons of beer. Loren loves to discuss and teach other people how to brew. It is a hobby that relaxes him and provides a very satisfying end product.
Recently, he opened a business called HomebrewU with the goal of teaching others how to brew beer.
Mike Zagrobelny lives in Norwood with his wife, three children, and dog. He grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, but moved to the North Country 18 years ago. Mike is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Potsdam State College. He taught secondary English and coached for twenty-two years in Virginia and New York, most recently spending 14 years at Madrid-Waddington. Mike is currently a Labor Relations Specialist with NYSUT.
Mike has been brewing for the past three years. His current set up is attached to his home bar and takes up a corner of his workshop. He has found that home brewing satisfies his love of good beer and thrifty nature of getting something good for less.
Mike enjoys all things old and is an avid collector of old machines. Home brewing and the creation of the home bar fit perfectly together to incorporate years of collecting for reuse and repurposing.
A private home in Massena, NY.
