Previous sewing experience is not necessary for participants in this class being held on Wednesday, April 1, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in Potsdam, NY. The session will feature how to sew a decorative and functional pillowcase using the French Seam technique and rolling all parts, in order to have no exposed seams.
A working pattern, instructions and tutoring guidance will be provided in this hands-on workshop for attendees, who will leave with a hand made sewing project that they create.
Attendees should bring their sewing machine if they have one, or request that one be brought for them. A sewing machine loan or some 'recycled' fabric for the project can be provided if notice is given in advance to the LLV. The presenter will also share her knowledge about sewing machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and simple repairs as these things come up during the session.
Participants should also bring with them pins, scissors, thread, and tape measure, if possible. The pillow case will be made from 1-1/8 yards of non-stretchy fabric. Some recycled fabric may be available (and recycled materials are encouraged) but participants may prefer to bring fabric of their choice with them - favorite clothing or textiles can be recycled for this purpose!
Presenter Marcia Cox is part of a network of enthusiastic seamstresses in St. Lawrence County. She is eager to pass on her knowledge and commitment to utilizing recyclable materials while creating useful everyday items. She has been teaching sewing techniques for twenty years.
Local Living Venture presenters are part of a generous network of volunteers donating their time to support the work of the organization and sharing their skills with the community.
For this unique learning experience, a $20 general public, $35 couple, $10 student donation is requested to benefit Local Living Venture non-profit workshop creation, to be collected on site during registration. A reduced rate or scholarship is available upon request.
Walk-in's are welcome to this event. The session is to be held at the Potsdam Community Room, above the police station in the Village offices and library complex. Parking is available in the parking lot next to the fire station on Main Street, which will be marked with an orange "Workshop Site" lawn sign.
Pre-registration is appreciated but not required, unless a sewing machine loan is needed. To register, send an email toLocalLivingVenture@gmail.com. Include the number in party and a phone number and email address for each attendee. Directions to the venue will be sent to all registered participants, and they will be notified in the unlikely event of postponement.
