America Recycles Day - Textile Recovery Program

The New York State Association of Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR) is spearheading a Textile Recovery Campaign to promote awareness about reusing or recycling textiles.  This is a statewide educational campaign that will be rolled out on America Recycles Day, with various partners such as the Local Living Venture.  Textiles include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, towels, draperies and stuffed animals.  In the US, approximately 85% of unwanted textiles are land-filled - only 15% are donated to thrift stores.  The average US citizen throws away approximately 70 lbs of textiles per year for a total of 21 billion pounds.

Join in and gather your goods to donate on that day (or in some cases the week leading up to the date as well.)  More details coming soon to our Thrift Map page...please bookmark it and check back in as the event develops!
