have just finished building a timber frame barn (which will provide cover in event of inclement weather), and are raising two young children.

 This Event Will Include
A fun *Demonstration* and raffling off of the beautiful handmade

Rocket Cook Stove "summer kitchen" cooker!
Check out this link for details!

 Bring
A potluck dish to share
- a place card noting the ingredients is helpful to those with food sensitivities/preferences.
A place setting (plate or bowl, fork and knife, cup) if you can (not everyone has place settings for this many guests, and it will save the host and helpers from washing so many dishes!)
A folding chair or camp chair, or picnic blanket, if you have one available - some seating will be provided.
Your good thoughts, questions, and skills to share!

PRESS RELEASE

Skill-sharing Picnic

CANTON, NY --  The monthly Simple Living Skill-sharing Picnic resumes this Saturday in the St. Lawrence River Valley region after a Summer break. The event is a Local Living Venture (LLV) gathering for those interested in the "simple life" and is held on the third Saturday of most months.

The August 20 event is from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the
Akins' Family Stone Hill Farm, 91 Cassidy Rd., Hermon, NY near Canton.

Anyone who is serious or curious about growing and preserving food and fiber, efficient use of wood stoves, clean home-grown energy sources, "green" building techniques or general homesteading skills are welcome to attend this community-building event.

This month features a demonstration and the raffling off of a Rocket Summer Cook Stove that was built in an LLV workshop as well as the shared meal time and networking. Seating is provided but attendees are welcome to bring more and beverages will be provided through the generous support of Natures Storehouse, providing natural food and supplements at 21 Main St. in Canton, NY.

Various homesteads and community sites are visited for these monthly events, throughout the St. Lawrence River Valley and Adirondack foothills region.  These events are an opportunity to share or learn "simple living" skills and enjoy the camaraderie of a regional network.

The hosts for the August event are Josh and Tasha Akins at Stone Hill Farm. They raise a few chickens, pigs and Dexter beef animals. They also tap 500 maple trees, have a small garden, have just finished building a timber frame barn (which will provide cover in event of inclement weather), and are raising two young children.

The event is located approximately seven miles from downtown Canton, NY. Directions are available by leaving a message at (315) 347-4223. It is free and open to the public, though  free-will small donations for LLV program growth are appreciated.
