with David Rice of Sweetcore Farm
Wednesday, November 16
6 - 8 pm

This workshop is geared towards those who want to establish and maintain backyard fruit plantings. Those wishing to create small commercial or homestead orchards and small fruit plantings are also encouraged to attend.

Apples, blueberries, and raspberries will be the major fruits examined.
Site selection, soil preparation, varieties and rootstocks for the North Country.
Planting, fertilization, and pest concerns with an eye towards organic solutions.
Production supplies and sources will be discussed along with nursery and ordering recommendations.
Group ordering is a potential benefit of participation in this "Fruit School" series of workshops, of which this is the first, designed to cover all of the bases of fruiting trees, bushes and even nuts.
Dave Rice holds an Associate degree in horticulture with focus on fruit science.  He has devoted the past thirty years to fruit and vegetable production, currently as the owner of Sweetcore Farm near Russell, NY with his wife Kathy.  For the past four years he has presented the very popular Local Living Venture Fruit Tree Pruning workshop.
