Fermented Foods: A Kimchi & Sauerkraut 'Make-n-Take!' * Nutritious, Delicious Hands On Workshop
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
- Have you ever been curious about pickling vegetables with a live fermentation method?
- Or have you tried it before and it didn't go as expected?
If you said yes to either question, join us for a fun hands-on workshop to welcome in the springtime! The techniques you will learn apply to nearly all vegetables.
In this workshop we will focus on two projects: Kimchi and Sauerkraut.
Traditional Kimchi is a staple in the Korean diet, mixing many beautiful flavors such as ginger, hot pepper and garlic into more mild veggies such as cabbage, carrot and radish. The fermented result is a flavorful wonderland that can pair with a wide range of meals.
Together we will be creating a vegetarian North Country version of kimchi, using items that we can all grow here (minus the salt and ginger). We will also make sauerkraut. Cabbage is a cinch to grow and kraut is very easy to make!
Everyone will have a chance to bring home one of the items. We will cover all the info you need to finish the fermentation process in your own home with instructions included.

An Important Note in support of 'local food for local folks', from the Local Living Venture:
Now is the time to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture, where you buy a share of the harvest in the WInter or Spring - helping the farmer to get going - and receive a share of the bounty all season long in exchange.) Talk to Flip and Bob to see if theirs is a good match for you (they have a sizeable selection of vegetables, eggs, animal proteins and more.)
