The Local Living Festival is a grassroots community celebration of local rural life skills. It focuses on self-reliance through appropriate technology, energy independence, small-scale local agriculture, sustainable forestry and wood heating and more, for a vibrant local community.
The Local Living Festival is organized by the coalition of the Local Living Venture and the Sustainability Committees of United Helpers and the Village of Canton and will be held in a new location, in the heart of downtown Canton on the Village Green, with workshops sprinkled through the surrounding churches, library and Historical Society facilities.
Saturday, September 26th will feature skill-sharing demonstrations, numerous workshops, speakers, exhibits and vendors, children's activities, local traditional craft demo's, art, music, dancing, and good local food. Over twenty workshops have been scheduled to date, and many more are in the works.
The following week, on Saturday October 3rd, there will be a guided tour of several wonderful 'green' homesteads, in locations from Adams, NY to Winthrop, NY.
Through this educational and fun experience, Festival attendees will learn about low-impact methods and practical low-cost solutions they can incorporate into their own lives. Festival presenters, demonstrators and exhibitors will share skills and local knowledge in order to boost our overall capability as a community - with ways to live more simple, less expensive and more environmentally friendly lives.
All are welcome to attend the Local Living Festival Outreach Gatherings on August 5, 26, Sept. 9 and 23. For more information, call the Festival hotline at (315) 347-4223 or check the website at www.LocalLivingVenture.org
The Local Living Festival 2015 is coordinated by the Local Living Venture, United Helpers and the Village of Canton.
